In Between - Understanding Cultural Gravity: Why Change Defies the Laws of Nature

Date: 15 November
Time: 16.00-17.00 CET

About the Speaker
Iñaki Escudero is deeply passionate about learning and firmly believes it to be the most potent of all human superpowers. For him, learning empowers us to shape ourselves into anything we aspire to become.

It’ll therefore come as no surprise that Iñaki is a learning designer. For the past 12 years, he’s been an integral part of Hyper Island, contributing his expertise to both the school in Karlskrona and clients across the Americas, Asia, and Europe. Notably, he takes immense pride in co-leading the course on Brand Strategy and Storytelling.
Presently, Iñaki has redirected his focus towards assisting clients in navigating the realms of Ethical Technology and Green Skills through his consultancy, The Mutant Gene.

An avid reader, he has consistently devoured a book per week, amassing an impressive tally of 728 since 2009. Beyond the intellectual realm, he passionately undertakes challenging marathons, with his 29th scheduled for November. He is equally dedicated to exploring health-span philosophies as part of his ongoing quest for knowledge.

He currently lives in Austin, TX, but change is the only constant.

About the Session

This session is a fascinating journey into the subtle yet immensely influential forces that govern our actions, beliefs, and interactions within the cultures we inhabit.

We'll explore this concept of cultural gravity and unravel its mysteries. We'll delve into the ways cultural norms, values, and expectations influence our lives, often without us even realising it. But more importantly, we'll seek to understand why change can seem so challenging within the gravitational pull of culture.

By the end of our session, you'll have a clearer understanding of why change can be so resistant to our efforts within different cultural contexts.

Intention & Desired Outcome
The intention of this session is to explore the concept of ‘Cultural Gravity’ and understand how it influences human behaviour, society, and the resistance to change within different cultures. We aim to shed light on the powerful forces that shape our beliefs, actions, and interactions within our cultural contexts.

By the end of this session, participants should have a deeper comprehension of cultural gravity, recognise its impact on their lives, and gain insights into why change can often seem challenging. They will also be equipped with strategies to navigate and influence cultural gravity positively, fostering greater openness to change.
